Description
Byline: Uzma Shujaat Sudan is a multi-cultural, multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-religious and multi-lingual country with a complex history marked by military rule, wars and conflict since its independence in 1956 from Britain. The colonial power planted the seeds of discord by applying the policy of divide and rule. The British introduced and legalized the "Closed Areas Act", which isolated south Sudan, Nuba mountains and the south Blue Nile regions as tribal settlements so that they were not influenced by the Arab and Islamic culture prevalent in other areas of Sudan.
